DATE: June 1, 2010

The regular season for baseball and softball is winding down and many of our leagues are making plans for international tournament competition. We would like to share some information with you, which will hopefully make your tournament season a very enjoyable experience for your players, parents and fans.

* As the player selection process begins for your tournament team, we would like to remind you of the eligibility qualifications for your team and players to enter international tournament competition.

1.Your league must be registered with PONY Baseball and Softball International Headquarters.

2.Eligible players must meet the following guidelines:

  a. A player must have participated in a least one half (1/2) of the scheduled league games.
  b. A player must reside within the league boundaries (no exceptions).
  c. A player must be of proper age as described in the Rules and Regulations.
  d. Meet all other requirements as stated in the Rules and Regulations.

* All tournament games must be played with a licensed PONY baseball or softball. The Wilson 1075 SST is the official baseball of all World Series competition. The Wilson A-9075 SST 12 inch softball is the official softball of the 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U Fast Pitch National Championships and the A-9275 SST 11 inch softball is the official softball of the 8U and 10U  Fast Pitch National Championships and the Slow Pitch National Championships. These balls bear the stamp and emblem of PONY Baseball and Softball (new logo). Only licensed balls are acceptable. Leagues unable to obtain the specified balls from local distribution facilities are encouraged to contact PONY Baseball and Softball immediately for information on how to obtain the licensed balls or call our choice retailer, Baseball Express at 1-800-WE-PITCH for baseballs and softballs.

* Teams entering tournament competition are required to display the tournament team emblem on their uniform. There are no exceptions. The tournament team emblem must be sewn on the right shoulder of the uniform sleeve, the right t-shirt sleeve of a sleeveless jersey, the front leg of softball shorts or the upper chest on a sleeveless softball jersey. Wrist bands bearing the tournament team emblem are permitted in softball. All players and baseball coaches are required to wear full baseball uniform. Emblems are available through PONY Baseball and Softball at a cost of $1.50 each. Click on TOURNAMENTS on the home page then select your events from the drop down screen. We plan to keep up to date scores and highlights on as many levels of tournament competition as we can. So, log on and check out our revised site.

* A tournament team Eligibility Affidavit must be filled out properly and presented at all levels of tournament competition. Copies of the Eligibility Affidavit are available only on-line at www.pony.org. * PONY players who, because of a disability, need a reasonable modification to PONY's rules, policies, or practices in order to participate fully and equally in PONY games should describe in the space below the modification needed and how the modification would avoid discrimination, including how the modification will address the player's disability. [Note that PONY may refuse any request that will result in a fundamental alteration to an essential aspect of PONY's program.]
PONY players who are deaf or substantially limited in hearing may use a sign language interpreter, or other auxiliary aid, during games. PONY and/or the local league shall ensure that any such player who requests a qualified sign language interpreter is provided with such an interpreter free of charge. If a player prefers to instead select and pay for his or her own sign language interpreter, or use an acquaintance as an interpreter (i.e., a family member), this is permitted under PONY rules. If you need a sign language interpreter, or other auxiliary aid, please provide the following information:
Describe the auxiliary aid that would provide effective communication based on your communication needs:
Do you want PONY and/or the local league to ensure that you have a qualified sign language interpreter free of charge?
Yes ____ No ____

If you are providing your own sign language interpreter, please provide that individual's contact information here:

PONY is adding the above wording to all league and tournament applications in order to comply with a Justice Department ruling in 2007.

* We have a rule change suggestion form for your use on our web site at www.pony.org. This form can be found on the left hand navigation bar under "RULES, REGULATIONS AND STANDARD FORMS." If your league would like to recommend a change in our rules and regulations, please fill out the form and return it to PONY no later than August 15.

HAVE A SAFE AND SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT SEASON!

Please feel free to contact us for a League that is close to you.  You may email saponydirector@aol.com
for more information.  Thank you

PONY Baseball and Softball’s league registration deadline has changed from previous years. The registration deadline for Shetland, Pinto, Mustang, Bronco & Pony leagues are now May 1st (Colt & Palomino leagues are now June 1st) or YOUR LEAGUES FIRST REGULAR SEASON GAME, whichever comes first. If you register after the deadline or after your league has played its opening games the registration penalty is in effect as well as a possibility of endangering your all-star team playoff spots.

Please complete your 2010 registration as soon as possible to avoid late fees at www.pony.org. If you have questions about the registration process, contact PONY International Headquarters. We can be reached at 724-225-1060 from 8AM to 5PM EST or by emailing info@pony.or
